The William Humphreys Art Gallery (WHAG) invites muralists and graffiti artists to apply for a public art commission in Kimberley.

If Walls Could Talk is a Community Arts and Cultural Development initiative of the WHAG, aiming to invest in the promotion of creative interventions in public spaces. This year’s initiative is themed “Kindness is Contagious” and seeks to promote everyday compassion and the power of small acts of humility to transform communities.

Applications Open: 28 October 2025

Applications Close: 16 November 2025

  • The successful artist will be notified by 21 November 2025.
  • Interested artists must be available to produce the mural in Kimberley from 8-12 December 2025

Project Description:

Experienced graffiti artists/muralists are invited to submit concept designs for a public mural according to the following specifications:

  • Theme: “Kindness is Contagious”. We are seeking an artist whose visual storytelling uplifts spirits and reminds viewers of the importance of kindness. The final mural should reflect the transformative power of everyday compassion and bring hope and emotional resonance to the public space.
  • The slogan Kindness is Contagious must feature in your design.
  • Please note* Your concept artwork must be scaled according to the wall specifications that need to be painted. (See diagram with actual measurements below)
  • Project Budget: R 30 000.00 (This is a cost to company budget and is inclusive of the completion of the artwork, all materials, and travel and accommodation if needed).
  • Location: Kimberley, Northern Cape Province
  • Size of Mural: 13.1m x 2.8 m

Application Documents that need to be submitted during the online application process:

1.     Mural Design (one artwork per submission) Must be done according to the scale of the actual wall to be painted.
2.     Artist Portfolio of previous murals (max 5 pages)
3.     Summary Report from Central Supplier Database
4.     Copy of Identity Document
5.     Completed SBD4 Document
