The William Humphreys Art Gallery (WHAG), in collaboration with the MTN Foundation, invites muralists and graffiti artists to apply for an exciting commission opportunity. We seek an artist to create a public mural in Kimberley that highlights and raises awareness about the importance of literacy. This project aims to inspire and educate the community, emphasizing the transformative power of reading and education.

  • The successful artist(s) will be notified by the 28th of February 2025.
  • Interested artists must be available to produce the mural in Kimberley from 17 to 21 March 2025.

Project Description:

If Walls Could Talk is a Community Arts and Cultural Development initiative of the WHAG that wishes to invest in the promotion of creative interventions in public spaces in the Northern Cape. Experienced graffiti artists/muralists are invited to submit concept designs for a public mural according to the following specifications:

  • Theme: The theme for the public mural must focus on raising awareness about the importance of literacy. The slogan “Read, Think and Succeed” must feature in your design. Please note that your concept artwork must be scaled according to the wall that needs to be painted. (See diagram with actual measurements below)
  • Project Budget: R 35 000.00 (This is a cost to company budget and is inclusive of the completion of the artwork, all materials, and travel and accommodation if needed).
  • Location: Kimberley, Northern Cape Province
  • Size of Mural: Please see the diagram below with actual measurements and an image of the wall to be painted.
